The Gift Guide: Finding the Perfect College Gift for Your Best Friend

Finding Perfect College Gift

We’re over halfway through July and that means there’s a little over a month to go until we start packing up our stuff and moving to our new college home! It also means that it’s time to start thinking about all the goodbyes we’ll have to say to close friends in the coming weeks. I put together a few items that my friends and I gave each other last year before we all went off to college so that we could remember each other even when we were hundreds of miles apart!

1. “Love is a State of Mind” Necklace (Dogeared, $48-$58)

My best friend Katie and I gave each other these necklaces last year before we went off to college. They’re a great conversation piece and a fun way to remember your bestie even when you live in different states.

2. Friend Bangle (Alex & Ani, $28)

I’m OBSESSED with Alex & Ani bracelets, because I love that you can wear as many or as few as you like. A bangle with her school logo on it lets her show off her school spirit. Or, get her a “friend” bracelet to always remember you by!

3. Coordinates Bracelet (The Modern Bazaar, $28-$52)

This bangle is another great personalized gift to remember your best friend by! Engrave the coordinates of a favorite location – maybe your favorite place in town or the vacation you took together!

4. Monogrammed Wristlet (Pretty Lou Lou, $9.95)

A monogrammed wristlet is perfect place for your bestie to put her school ID and room keys on! Get it in her favorite color or her school colors; she’ll think of you every time she swipes into the dining hall!

5. Mug (Ashley Brooke Designs, $28)

Put a smile on her face every morning with a fun and funky mug! These mugs come in tons of fun sayings from “Hello Sunshine!” to “I woke up like this” (a must have for any Beyonce fan).

6. Framed Glitter State (Gabby’s own DIY project)

Just like the state necklaces, this easy DIY is a great way to remind her of the place you two will always call home! This craft is really easy to customize with any colors and really adds a pop of color to those drab cinderblock residence hall walls.

What kind of gift did you get for your best friend before heading off to college? I’d love to hear about them down below in the comments or on Twitter (@theswirlblog).
