Hey y’all! This is the first installment of our weekly Wednesday chats. Gabby and I will be switching off every week, so you’ll get to see what we’ve both been up to, what we’re loving right now, and what we’re looking forward to! This week’s Brew theme: Snowmageddon.

This weekly chat is all about what I've been up to after the "bomb cyclone" dropped 11 inches of snow in my area! Basically, I've been doing a lot of baking and Netflix-binging. No complaints.

As I write this on Sunday night, we’re in recovery day 4 from the “bomb cyclone” (who names these things??) that dumped almost a foot of snow in our little corner of Virginia. Basically, we’ve all been snowed in for four days. BUT being snowed in has afforded me plenty of time to do some reading, Netflix-ing, baking, blogging, and let’s be honest, sleeping.

What I’ve Been Up To

I love to bake when I’m home from school, so the first thing I made were some New York Times Chocolate Chip Cookies, which have a like a million 5-star reviews. To be honest, they ended up being these GINORMOUS bakery-style cookies. Are they any better than the recipe on the Toll House chocolate chip bag? Honestly, no. And they require a lot more effort & waiting time, since you’re supposed to let the dough refrigerate for 2 days. LOL. just stick with Toll House.

Definitely make these brownies from Modern Honey though. They are SO FUDGY and rich and I’ve for sure been sneaking slices every time I walk by the pan. I added some homemade caramel sauce to the batter and drizzled some on top after baking they turned out WOW.

In the spirit of sugary baked goods, I’ve also been trying to train for a half-marathon! I’ve been doing a walk / run combo on the treadmill these past few weeks, but once the snow clears, I’m looking to get outside and hopefully increase my mileage and speed. If you have any half-marathon suggestions, let me know down below in the comments. The last time I ran a half-marathon, I cried at mile 9. So I’m not looking to relive that.

I’ve also been drinking a lot of mint tea AND I’ve started watching The Office. Jim & Pam?? My heart cannot handle it.

What I’ve Been Loving

This week, I’ve been reading You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero and Adulting: How to Become a Grown-up in 468 Easy(ish) Steps by Kelly Williams Brown. I love love love You Are A Badass. It’s really made me stop and think about how my negative thoughts throughout the day build up over time to deteriorate my self-confidence.

One thing I’ve started doing before I go to bed is thinking of 10 things I’m grateful for. It’s super simple (sometimes I’m thankful that I’m in bed!) and really helps me to focus on what’s important in my life.

I haven’t gotten very far in the “Adulting” book (I’m on step 47/468) but I know Kelly’s advice will be so valuable once I move out on my own – she’s already gone through tips for moving into a new apartment and some basic food that you should be able to cook for yourself. Becaues I guess I can’t sustain myself on boxed mac & cheese anymore??

Listening To

Every month, I create a new Spotify playlist and update it all month long. If you want to see what I’ve been listening to (I’m kind of on an alt kick right now), check it out and give it a follow! Also YES my username is superstar9278 because that was my email from 10 years ago and Spotify won’t let me change it!?!?!

Also, what do y’all think of Justin Timberlake’s new song?? It’s definitely different but the more I listen to it the more I like it! I absolutely cannot wait for his new album. Justin is #1 bae.

Okay, honestly with how cold it’s been here I’ve just been wearing thick socks and sweatshirts, BUT I did buy those Marc Fisher espadrilles that every blogger owns so I can’t wait for it to be spring! For the time being, I’ve really been loving my JCrew wool coat, which I featured on our “What We Got For Christmas” vlog.

I haven’t been doing too much photography lately since the temp has been in the teens. However, I’ve included some shots from before Christmas! If you want to see more photography, make sure to follow @_hancam_ on Instagram!

What I’m Looking Forward To

I’m excited for the snow to melt so I can do a little shopping before I head back to school next weekend. I can’t believe it’s my final semester of college! The Erin Condren planner I bought in December hasn’t arrived yet because of the snow, but hopefully I can get it this week! Anyone else feel lost without their planner?? Even though I’m on break, I still gotta know what’s going on!

Did y’all get hit with any snow? Or are you lucky to live where it’s warm / the snow is no big deal? Let me know in the comments! And what do y’all think of this style of this post: do you like the length? The content? Want me to chat about a specific topic? Chat with me in the comments! See y’all on January 24th for the next Weekly Brew!

  • These posts are my absolute favorite so yes to them coming every Wednesday. I read You Are a Badass about two years ago and omg it was one of the things that sparked my desire to forgo negativity and really dig deep into who I want to be. Also, I really want to read that Adulting book so maybe I can check it out online from my library since I can’t do any physical purchases right now because study abroad.

    • I love the adulting book! It’s definitely something I can see myself referencing for the next couple of years. I’m so excited for you to study abroad!

  • I’m also running a half marathon, in April!! I’m using the Hal Higdon training plan and definitely recommend it. If you run a lot already you can bump up the levels, but I’m using the novice 1 plan. Love this post!

    • My college roommate (who is running the half with me) saw your comment and just texted me that she wants to try it out! We’re definitely at like pre-novice level, so we’ll see how it goes 🙂

  • I love this series! It’s such a great idea. I have always wanted to read You Are A Badass!

    Kendal // Life With Kendal

    • Thank you so much! I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a light & inspiring read!

  • Amanda

I love this series idea! It’s nice and casual, but interesting!
And we also got nailed here in Massachusetts. But it was nice, the snow gave me a lot of time to work on my blog relaunch.

    • Ahh congrats! I hope everything is going well! 🙂

  • Ah I love the photographs you’ve been taking!

  • Michelle Williams

Love the songs you shared, I definitely added a couple to my own playlists!

    • I’m so glad you found some new ones! I love updating my collection!

  • thesophiadiaries

wait so were the cookies worth the long cook time or no? xD

    • I’m definitely an OG Toll House girl, for sure 🙂

  • Miss ALK

I watched the Office at this time last year and I thought I was the last person in the world to watch it lol!! I’m more of a Parks and Rec fan but the Office is good too!

    xoxo A

    • I totally agree! I was die hard Parks & Rec and didn’t think the Office was funny at all, even though they’re a similar style. I’m glad I got into the Office, though!

  • We got snow and very cold weather in Toronto but I actually enjoyed it since I got to stay home, watch netflix, and bake some cookies as well.

Oh, I really like the pictures you shared!

    • Thank you so much, Sarah! All of those things sound lovely and perfect for cold weather days! 🙂

  • You Are A Badass is on my 2018 reading list and I can’t wait to read it! Also The Office is one of my favorite shows ever (and I lowkey really really love that my friends always compare me and my bf to Jim+Pam)

    • You’re going to love You Are A Badass! And ohmygosh getting compared to Jim & Pam is GOALS, they are just so flippin’ cute! 🙂

  • ahhh your photos are gorgeous! I legit JUST started watching the office last month too! I HATED season 1 and honestly didn’t understand how people like the show, but now I’m on season 3 and love it!

    • Yes SAME! Everyone was like “Just get through season 1!” and I didn’t believe them, but I’m so glad I pushed through. I knew that EVERYONE couldn’t be lying, right??

  • Bomb cyclone was the absolute worst! I actually just called work during most of those days to tell them I’d be working from home. Not a fan of going outside. I’m glad you used that time to relax and do things you enjoy! I love baking too!

    • That’s awesome that you were able to work from home! I probably shouldn’t love baking for the sake of my health, but how can I resist a pan of brownies? 🙂

  • Audrey Knizek

I make a monthly Spotify playlist too! I have to say though, I’m not loving JT’s new song. I was looking forward to hearing new music from him too!

    • I can’t tell how I feel about the song! I think once his whole album comes out, then I can kind of hear it in context and see how I feel about it. But I love love love his old music!

  • I’m definitely going to have to try that brownie recipe! And my fiancé has been re-watching The Office too, which means so am I haha. I’m def more of a Parks & Rec fan though, but Jim and Pam are just too cute!

    • Yesss I love Parks & Rec! That’s my go-to Netflix show if I want something low-key but funny to watch. The Office is slowly become a fave too, though!

  • Tori Dunlap

I ALWAYS end up watching The Office again and again, even if I have every episode memorized haha
    Tori || Victori Media

    • I’m on season 5 right now and I already know which episodes I want to go back and rewatch!

  • Azanique

I am totally stealing that idea of listing 10 things I am grateful for every night. What a great way to practice gratitude 🙂

    -xo, Azanique | http://www.lotsofsass.com

    • It’s so simple but really helps me to fall asleep at night since now I’m thinking of all the wonderful things in my life 🙂

  • We just got hit with a massive storm that has brought ice, snow, and flooding- yikes!

    • It was terrible! I hope it’s a little warmer where you are now!
