Hey y’all, and welcome back to the second installment of the Weekly Brew! In case you missed the last Weekly Brew, Gabby and I are switching off every Wednesday to bring you guys a weekly chat! It’ll be a fun place where we can share what we’ve been doing, what we’ve been loving, and what we’re looking forward to in the coming weeks.
This week, I’m chatting all about heading back to school, running almost every day, and how I’m dealing with this frigid weather. Let’s go, let’s go!
What I’ve Been Up To
Since the last time I caught up with you guys, I started my second semester of senior year!??!?!??!! I’m really still in denial that the last 3 1/2 years have even happened.
It’s definitely a bittersweet time, but I’m determined to make the most of it. I’m only taking one chemical engineering class this semester, so I have the most free time I’ve ever had in college which has been amazing.
It’s so nice to be able to say “YES” to hanging out with my friends or doing things on the weekend. Last weekend, 7 of my friends and I did an escape room! We had to find lots of lock combinations, decrypt a message hidden in chemical bottles, and even read an Enigma cipher, but we made it out with 10 minutes to spare.
10/10 would recommend doing an escape room if you’re looking for something chill but exciting to do on the weekends when it’s -34982 degrees outside.
This week, we’re making brunch and probably going to go see a movie! Since the Oscar noms came out on Tuesday, I really want to watch a few of them! “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and “Dunkirk” are high on my list.
I’ve also been running A TON (like 5 times a week) which is wild because I’ve never consistently worked out in college. I’m so grateful that my class schedule has allowed me to squeeze in running in between classes, which really frees up my nights.
I’ve found that if I wait to workout at night, I ALWAYS find excuses to avoid hitting the gym.
Plus, working out before lunch always improves my day! I feel #accomplished, ya know?
My saving grace with working out 5-7 times a week has been Brighton Keller’s blow-dry hair tutorial! I do a quick rinse in the shower after my workout wearing a shower cap, then add some dry-shampoo & blow-dry my dry hair straight. It really does add volume & make my hair look fresh after sweating for an hour!
Plus, living in a cold environment, I’m always worried about my hair freezing which is just not fun at all. Brighton, you are truly a lifesaver!!
What I’ve Been Loving
I won Kayla’s book giveaway last week, so I got to pick 2 books that Kayla read in 2017 for my own collection! I chose Rupi Kaur’s Milk and Honey and The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines. I’m super duper excited to dig into both of these! When I posted on Instagram about the two books, so many of you replied to say that you loved Milk and Honey!
As always, I’ll include my monthly Spotify playlist for y’all to listen to! I have to say, I’m really digging Justin Timberlake’s new singles! I’ve also included my workout/running playlist. If you have any song suggestions, feel free to drop them in the comments!
Before I left for school, I saw Pitch Perfect 3 and The Post. Pitch Perfect was just what you’d expect – kind of just a wild ride with lots of singing and a happy ending.
I absolutely loved The Post! I really didn’t have any historical background on the Nixon administration, but the movie did a great job of portraying this situation. Honestly one of my favorite parts of the movie was simply seeing how they used to print newspapers back in the day, using typewriters and large printing plates.
I’m also starting season 6 of the Office! For a show that I used to despise, it’s pretty safe to say that I’ve fallen in love with it. Some of my favorite episodes were in season 5, so I can’t wait to see all the tomfoolery that occurs at Dunder Mifflin in season 6.
I can’t even tell y’all how much I love my J.Crew wool stadium coat. It’s classy, it’s warm, and it makes me feel like a movie star.

I’ve also been really into just wearing a long-sleeve pocket tee (usually from Old Navy) and a statement necklace (usually from J.Crew Factory) to class because I’m all about being trendy but comfy at the same time.
I’ve also been taking my J.Crew signet bag everywhere because it’s the perfect size and a go-with-everything color. And it wouldn’t be mine if it wasn’t monogrammed, right? It’s safe to say I’m having a J.Crew moment.
I’m so in love with J.Crew’s new line of leather handbags, especially the circle bag they recently added!
My hands literally resembled sandpaper this week, so I’ve been slathering on some Bag Balm every night to hydrate hydrate hydrate while I sleep. I’m also loving Tazo’s “Zen” tea because it has a little bit of caffeine that helps with mild headaches.
My favorite purchase for the room has been this little light box that sits on the windowsill of my dorm room. It was $7 from Nordstrom Rack and I love finding clever sayings to add to it. This week’s quotes: Is it Friday yet? and Life is but a meme.
The one I bought is sold out online, but this light box from Amazon also comes with fun stars and smiley face characters!
No new photos this week, but here are some of my favorites from my trip to Chicago last November! These & more over on my photography Instagram, @_hancam_.
Thanks for catching up with me this week, y’all! Don’t forget to check out my recent posts on rocking a career fair and my recent trip to San Diego! Have any questions? Good running/pump-up songs? Want to know any more about what I’ve been loving lately? Drop me a comment down below! I love to chat.
And as always, make sure you follow me on Instagram @_hancam_ (photography) and @theswirlblog, and on Twitter @theswirlblog. See y’all next week!
