Hey y'all, and welcome back to the Weekly Brew! Today, I'm chatting all about what's been going on in my life these past two weeks, including catching a terrible cold and learning to rock climb.

What I’ve Been Up To

Cold Season

I can’t believe¬†it’s already February, but at the same time, January felt like it was 1000 years long! January left me with a terrible cold – a cloudy head, runny nose, lots of coughing, the works. I don’t really like taking medicine, so I relied on lots of sleep and lots of tea and water!

I decided to try the infamous “medicine ball” tea from Starbucks since I’ve heard it works wonders for colds and just feeling yucky. The “medicine ball” is mint tea, peach herbal tea, honey, and hot lemonade!

I was initially nervous to order it because what if the barista thinks I’m crazy?? She knew exactly what it was, even if I did get a little bit of an eye roll with it.

So how does it taste? Actually, it’s not terrible. There’s definitely a strong hint of lemon because of the lemonade, and it’s not something I would order all the time. However, it felt really good on my sore throat and – surprise! – I actually did feel way better the next day.

My only complaint is the amount of sugar in it! I ordered a grande, which had over 30 grams of sugar in it. Bleh! But since I really didn’t eat for 3 days because of the cold, I figured it would be okay just once. Next time, I might try to make it at home!

Belay Training

Luckily my cold cleared up in time for belay training! My roommate and I attended a 2-hour belay clinic at the rock climbing wall on campus. For those of you who don’t know, the belay is the person who stands on the ground and manipulates the rope while the climber scales the wall.

We learned how to properly tie all of the ropes, how to tighten the ropes as the climber ascends the wall, and how to lower the climber once they reach the top. I was initially really nervous because that’s a lot of responsibility! What if the climber falls?¬†Thankfully, it’s pretty intuitive and the clips we use do a lot of the work for you if the climber does happen to fall.

I got to be both the belayer and the climber, and boy my arms are SORE. Like, parts of my arms that I didn’t even know had muscles. Have your forearms ever been sore before? Mine sure as heck are!

I’m so excited to go back, however; I’m trying to finish this post so I can meet my roommate and climb before dinner!

What I’ve Been Loving

I’m still chugging through Adulting: How to Become a Grown-up in 468 Easy(ish) Steps by Kelly Williams Brown, and I’m going to start The Magnolia Story this week!

One of my favorite readings this week was an article about Nigel, the World’s Loneliest Bird. I don’t know why, but the story about how no one followed this little bird to a new island really touched my heart!

Listening To

Two words: Justin Timberlake. I LOVE his new album, so my February 2018 playlist is mostly his new songs.

I think his new album is both an homage to old Justin (with fun songs like “Midnight Summer Jam” and “Filthy” but also shows a new side of Justin, like in his collab with Alecia Keys on “Morning Light.” Give it a listen if you haven’t already!

My new favorite running playlist is “Dance Party” from Spotify! I love some good pump-up tunes, especially during long runs when I tend to get pretty bored!

It’s been so dang cold here that I’ve basically been wearing Bean Boots and Patagonia pullovers all week. For any of y’all who are wondering, I have a really long down coat from L.L.Bean that I only pull out when the temps dip below 20 degrees or so! It’s a huge sleeping bag and I love it.

When I workout, I love to wear my Old Navy workout tanks and Zella leggings that I found on sale ($25!) at Nordstrom Rack.

No new photography this week, but I will share some of my favorite Instagram accounts! Some of these I follow for fun, and some of them I follow for photography inspiration! I especially love Andrew Knapp’s dog, Momo!
